Help with math problem

Can yuo guys help me with this math problem? I got stumped on this one. :/

The product of x and x increased by 5 is equal to -6. What is the product of the possible values of x?


Somehow I got x^2 = -1. Now if you get x^2, it must be positive. This equation doesn't work.. Can you show me a way how it would work and solve this problem or is this problem undoable?

is a product adding them both up or multiplyimg them ?

well one thing is obv. the product of x and x = -11
cuz -11 + 5 = -6 :D

The product is the result of multiplying them... but the question itself confuses me. Needs moar rewording.

Edit: I think the question is x*x^5=-6
If so... the answer is x = ±6√(-6) or ≈ ±1.35

But I doubt I got the question right...

Edit2: By "increase" do you mean add? Because in my school we use increase for powers.
If it's for adding, the answer is x = ±√(-11) or x^2 = -11 (same thing, written differently).

Edit3: I just read it over again. If it's only one x, not two, then the answer is -11.

if learned how to break that ^^ down into two ansers but i forgot how to do that,..

A square root of any negative number, is imaginary.

Edit:... no that's poorly worded. The result of a square root consisting of only one negative number, is always an imaginary number... Now that's better.

PSSSSSSSH answer is 6.

x(x+5) = -6
Factor::
x^2 +5x +6= 0

x = -2 or -3
-2 * -3 = 6

dude first you gave us x*x+5 = -11
and than you give us this x(x+5) = -6
and those arent the same,... you added 5 on the right side of the =
while you didnt do that on the left side,...
your math is wrong

First, parenthesis make a big difference, you didn't put those on the question... Also, you said increase means addition (increase means powering to me), but in the problem it is multiplication.

Second, that is wrong. Here is the whole process:

x(x+5)=-6

x^(2)+5x=-6

x^(2)+5x+6=0

(x+3)(x+2)=0

x+3=0 x+2=0

x=-3 x=-2

Answer: x=-3,-2

You don't randomly multiply the answer.

I don't know if the teacher wrote that question, but anyway, it is written poorly. Before's answers were technically correct, except you don't randomly multiply the answers.

well maybe he skipp cetain steps because hes good at math ?
wich i doubt since he asked us to solve it xD
i always skip steps,... well accualy i do it all my in my head so fast writing down is to slow
so i just write down the anser and than teacher tell me how i got im like explaining it and he's like : wtf you didnt copy someone ansers 0.o

I agree that it is annoying to write all those steps down, but there is really no other way to make sure that the person is the one who wrote it.
