| I first started to play this game when I was like 7~8th grade which was about 3 years ago... And now I'm a Junior. I just randomly remembered about the site and came in and found that you guys were still working on the game, and in fact made a FSIII.
I'm currently downloading FSII because that's where I stopped playing :) I want to see the ending.
PS: I still remember FSI, I really liked it. :)

| My story is quite similar to yours. I haven't played FS for a few years, and now I got back into FSII and FSIII. If you are planning on playing FSIII, I'd highly recommend finishing everything in FSII including the post-game, up to the part where you finish the Melody and Nayu arcs/stars. It provides a lot of background information behind the characters, and is fairly easy on the grinding. Going past that and beating the final final bosses are also a worthy endeavor, but it also involves something like 30 hours of straight grinding. | |

Alright, is there something like file transfer in FSIII?

| None of your hard-grinding transfers over. It does have a lot of the story and characters make more sense though. | |

| It'll be nice if we can promote the game. Sadly , more publicity will result in copyright strikes since he's using Maplestory Models | |

| I think we can promote the game, just not commercially. As long as we're not using other people's materials for commercial gain, then I think we're fine...maybe. Too much publicity can be a bad thing (looking at Super Mario Bros. X). So far we've already made a game page for FSIII on rpgmaker.net.
To be quite honest, I'm waiting for the game to be fully complete so I can probably write a full review of it.

| Wait.... So what you're saying is that we can put this game on Steam and not get copyright strikes as long as we publish the game for free? | |

http://www.gcflearnfree.org/useinformationcorrectly/copyright-and-fair-use/full In this website it says: "Don't make money off of the copyrighted work. In general, it's much easier to claim fair use when you're using the copyrighted material for noncommercial purposes. While posting images of your favorite TV shows and adding funny captions and commentary might be considered fair use, selling these images on T-shirts would not." So apparently you have to claim fair use, which I assume you will need to ask Nexon for permission(?) It's up to Zeru if he is willing to do so or not, but if the procedure is not complicated, I guess why not? Of course, I am not an expert here, all I've done regarding copyrights and plagiarizing thing is to put the work cited on my essays and research papers at school XD Correct me if I'm wrong.

| That's what I found as well, and so I agree - if it's possible, why not? I think that it'd be best if we promoted the game through game-making communities like rpgmaker.net (Final Story was made using RPG Maker XP) instead of communities managed by the big companies like Steam, so we don't run into too much complications. It might be just me, but I feel like a game-making community would probably better appreciate the games than the Steam community (or something like that). I guess the reason is that they understand that we’re just using the resources of others not for commercial gain, but for making a game that people would enjoy. Another good example out there would be Pokemon Reborn – a fan-game made through RPG Maker so people would enjoy a difficult challenge.
Besides, asking permission from Nexon to use their materials for fair use can be compared to asking a chicken to circumnavigate the entire world solely through flying.
EDIT: Okay, so I tried looked into it more, and using copyright material as 'fair use' involves: - not using it for commercial gain - not affecting the sales of copyrighted material (I might be forgetting something else) http://www.publiccounsel.org/tools/publications/files/fairuse.pdf Also 'fair use' is just a defense against copyright infringement, so there's really no absolute protection even if the 'fair use' doctrine is followed. I don't think that the games as they are right now infringe on anything big, but you never know. Sometimes the big companies might swoop in so long as the opportunity for profit is there.

Yeah, probably that website is better than Steam, since you need to have played or at least heard about Maple Story to fully grasp this game. Also, it might not be too pleasant to see a game created using a Nexon game in Steam, which are two completely different companies. xD

| The good thing about Final Story III is that no prior knowledge of MapleStory or the previous games is needed to understand. Having the extra knowledge helps in appreciating the details that reference stuff in those games though.
LOL I agree. I dunno if this analogy is appropriate, but it's like mixing oil and water together. It just doesn't happen.

| Could simply replace all the in game sprites for original works. It's just replacing the images and the game is still the same. This includes music too. I still want to keep the game free and open though. Since it's just a hobby of mine.
Other possible ways to show the game would be with let's play on Youtube or something along those lines. For the game to spread.
