FSII Light Star

I decided to replay FSI and FSII for nostalgia, and right now I'm at the part right before killing Hein in the 12 minute battle.

I got Xeru back from the Other Dimension, if I go to my equipment tab in inventory it lists the Star of Light as being there. I don't remember exactly what you were supposed to do with it as I don't seem to be able to equip it.

In the past, I remember that upon killing Hein, Xeru makes an appearance to rescue the person who defuses the bomb. However, now when I kill Hein it just gives me a bad ending with Xeru not showing up anywhere.
What am I supposed to do?

I think you have the right idea, I can equip the star of light on my Lenna at least so im not sure whats wrong there. From what I remember you only get a bad end if you're following lenna's path and you win the fight against the fs cast or losing in the timed battle(?).

In all previous playthroughs I've used Lenna as the main character but this time I chose Zeru just because. I don't know why but I can't equip the star of light on him even though I have it. As you said, it just comes up that I have to fight the fs2 cast and then I beat them and bad ending appears. Nowhere does Xeru show up. Pretty weird.

If I remember right, you have to lose against the fs2 cast.
